A bag containing $35,000 intended for the expenses of South Sudan’s Olympic delegation at the 2024 Summer Games was stolen from a hotel in the suburbs of Paris, according to local media reports.

The incident occurred on the evening of August 4 in a hotel in the Villejuif suburb. The bag, belonging to the country’s deputy minister of youth and sports, was left unattended on a table in the hotel lobby. Hotel staff present at the time claimed they did not witness anything.

The stolen bag also contained jewelry, documents, a mobile phone, and various Olympic facility passes.

While the bag was later recovered by police in the nearby commune of Massy, the money and jewelry went missing.

This incident follows a previous robbery involving Slovak cyclists in Paris earlier this year.
