Elon Musk has engaged in a verbal standoff with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer after he assumed that “civil war was inevitable” in the wake of protests ravaging the UK.
Musk, owner of X, posted the remarks on his platform in response to a video showing people targeting police with fireworks.
Starmer’s spokesperson strongly condemned Musk’s comments, stating that there was “no justification” for them and adding that social media companies “can and should be doing more” to address such issues.
Musk then responded to a post by Starmer on X, in which the Prime Minister condemned attacks on mosques and Muslim communities, asking: “Shouldn’t you be concerned about attacks on all communities?”
Musk further escalated the conflict, sharing a video of a person arrested for online comments, questioning: “Is this Britain or the Soviet Union?”
Justice Minister Heidi Alexander also denounced Musk’s remarks, calling them “totally unjustifiable” and “pretty deplorable”.
The ongoing unrest, which began after the fatal stabbing of three girls in Southport, has now lasted almost a week. Violence erupted in towns and cities across England and parts of Northern Ireland, driven by misinformation and anti-immigration calls.
