A partial collapse of a hotel near the Mosel River in western Germany has resulted in at least two deaths and left eight people trapped under the rubble.
The incident occurred late Tuesday evening in the winemaking town of Kroev, where police believe 14 people were inside the hotel at the time. While five individuals escaped unharmed, nine were buried beneath the debris.
Due to the extensive damage and risk of further collapse, emergency services are proceeding with extreme caution. As of Wednesday morning, one body has been confirmed, although it hasn’t been recovered yet. The remaining eight trapped individuals, some of whom are seriously injured, are still being searched for.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing. Authorities evacuated 31 people from the area immediately surrounding the damaged building as a safety precaution. The cause of the collapse hasn’t been determined.
