China Calls for De-escalation in Ukraine Amidst Renewed Fighting in Russia’s Kursk Region

China has urged both Ukraine and Russia to de-escalate the situation following renewed clashes in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces launched another offensive over the weekend, Anadolu Agency reports.

In a statement on Monday, China’s Foreign Ministry called on all parties to “observe the three principles for de-escalating the situation, namely no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting and no fueling the flame by any party.”

“China will continue to maintain communication with the international community to play a constructive role for the political settlement of the crisis,” the ministry added.

The ministry also reiterated its commitment to playing a constructive role in the political settlement of the crisis, adding that it would continue to maintain communication with the international community.

The heightened tensions in Kursk began with intensified shelling overnight on August 5-6, followed by an incursion of Ukrainian infantry, supported by tanks and armored vehicles, near the city of Sudzha. The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry reported that over 76,000 residents were evacuated from the region following the incursion.
