Two workers have died, and a third was seriously injured in an accident at a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility near Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport on Tuesday morning, CBS News reports, citing the airline.

The incident occurred at a wheel and brake shop, and Delta is cooperating with local authorities to investigate the circumstances of the incident.

“The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility,” Delta stated.

The company expressed its condolences and commitment to supporting the families and colleagues of those affected.

The Federal Aviation Administration is in touch with Delta but referred inquiries about the incident to the airline. Eric Lucero, a spokesperson for the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, confirmed that the agency has initiated an investigation into the matter.

The deceased workers were identified by the Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office as Mirko Marweg, 58, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and Luis Aldarondo, 37, of Newnan, Georgia.

Despite the fatal incident, operations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport were unaffected, as reported by an airport spokesperson.

The aerospace workers union has called on Delta to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the incident. The union is also working to organize some 20,000 ground workers at the predominantly nonunion airline.
