A photograph circulating online has revealed that some extended family members of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are publicly supporting former President Donald Trump.
The image, shared by former Nebraska Republican gubernatorial candidate Charles Herbster, shows eight individuals wearing “Nebraska Walz’s for Trump” T-shirts.
According to a spokesperson for Herbster, the people in the photograph are related to Walz through his grandfather’s brother, Francis Walz. Despite the familial connection, these relatives have indicated that they consider themselves “distant” from Walz and have never met or communicated with him.
One person featured in the photo stated that their support for Trump stems from alignment with his values. Trump has since responded on social media, suggesting a potential meeting with Jeff Walz, the governor’s older brother, who has been vocal about his opposition to Tim Walz’s political views. Jeff Walz, who lives in Florida, has expressed his discontent with his brother’s political ideology and hinted at the possibility of endorsing Trump publicly.
Tim Walz’s sister, Sandy Dietrich, has sought to downplay the significance of the photo, emphasizing that the individuals shown are from a different branch of the Walz family. Dietrich confirmed her support for her brother and Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, despite the familial disagreements.
