Russia’s Putin Says He Backs Kamala Harris for US Presidency, Citing Biden’s Support

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared his support for US Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming November presidential election, Bloomberg reports.

During a plenary session at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin responded to a question about his preferred candidate.

“Biden was our ‘favorite’ but he dropped out of the race. But he recommended that all of his supporters support Harris, so we will as well,” he said.

He went on to express a preference for Harris over Republican contender Donald Trump, whom he described as a leader who imposed “so many restrictions and sanctions against Russia” during his first presidency. Putin also remarked on Harris’s infectious laughter, commenting that “it shows she’s doing well.”

While Putin’s statement was likely meant as a sarcastic jab at the US political system and the ongoing tensions between the two countries, it came just one day after the Biden administration claimed that Russia-backed entities have been actively interfering in the US election for years.
