Xavier Babudar, the infamous “ChiefsAholic” known for his wolf costume and passionate fandom at Kansas City Chiefs games, has been sentenced to 17 years and six months in prison for a string of bank robberies across the country, CBS News reports.
The sentencing, which took place Thursday, followed Babudar’s guilty plea to charges related to 11 robberies in seven states, netting him over $800,000.
US Attorney Teresa Moore described Babudar’s actions as a “violent crime spree” that was fueled by the stolen money.
“While parading as a social media celebrity, Babudar secretly engaged in a violent crime spree,” she said in a statement. “Babudar’s robbery spree bankrolled the expensive tickets and travel across the country to attend Kansas City Chiefs games while he cultivated a large fan base online.”
Babudar, who gained notoriety for his enthusiastic presence at Chiefs games, was ordered to pay $532,675 in restitution and forfeit any property involved in laundering the stolen money, including an autographed picture of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The arrest of Babudar in July 2023 came after a multi-state manhunt, sparked by his removal of his ankle monitor and flight from authorities in March 2023. This occurred just days after he received a check for winnings from successful bets placed on the Chiefs winning Super Bowl LVII and Mahomes being named Super Bowl MVP.
In April, Babudar was also ordered to pay $10.8 million to a bank teller for injuries and punitive damages sustained during a robbery in Bixby, Oklahoma.
