A fire has broken out at Isiolo Girls High School in Isiolo County, Kenya, just one day after a devastating blaze at an elementary school for boys claimed the lives of at least 21 people, CNN reports.

The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) reported on X that “Isiolo Girls on fire, several students reportedly trapped inside.” The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that response teams have been activated following reports of the fire.

This incident follows a deadly fire at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County on Friday, where a dormitory housing 156 boys caught fire. Authorities confirmed that 19 bodies were recovered from the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the hospital.

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura expressed condolences to the victims’ families on behalf of the Kenyan government.

The cause of both fires is currently under investigation. The tragic events have shaken the nation and raised serious concerns about safety standards in school facilities across Kenya.
