Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on additional sex crimes charges, the Associated Press reports, citing Manhattan prosecutors.
The indictment will remain under seal until Weinstein’s arraignment on the new charges, scheduled for September 18.
Weinstein, 72, was not present at the hearing as he is currently recovering from emergency heart surgery performed Monday at a Manhattan hospital. The surgery aimed to remove fluid from his heart and lungs.
Prosecutors revealed last week that they were presenting evidence of up to three additional allegations against Weinstein to a grand jury. These allegations date back to the mid-2000s and include alleged sexual assaults at the Tribeca Grand Hotel (now known as the Roxy Hotel) and in a Lower Manhattan residential building between late 2005 and mid-2006, as well as an alleged sexual assault at a Tribeca hotel in May 2016.
While the indictment is under seal, it remains unclear whether the new charges involve all or some of these additional allegations.
This indictment comes on the heels of New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, overturning Weinstein’s 2020 conviction on rape and sexual assault charges earlier this year. The court ordered a new trial, prompting prosecutors to seek additional charges.
