Israel Launches Ground Operation in Lebanon, Warns of “Imminent” Iranian Retaliation

Israel launched limited ground operations into southern Lebanon on Tuesday, ordering residents of border communities to evacuate for their safety, The Associated Press reports.

The move comes as Israel is on high alert for a potential Iranian missile attack, which a senior US official warned could come “imminently.” Israeli officials have vowed to retaliate decisively against any Iranian aggression.

“We will not hesitate to respond decisively against any Iranian aggression,” stated Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, Israeli military spokesman.

A senior U.S. official has stated that such an attack could come “imminently,” further fueling regional anxieties. The US has deployed ships and aircraft in the region to support Israel in case of an Iranian attack.

The limited ground incursion is a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, adding a new layer of complexity to the already tense situation. While the Israeli military has emphasized its focus on targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, the move has raised concerns about the potential for further escalation and a wider regional conflict.

The recent surge in tensions follows weeks of targeted strikes by Israel that have significantly weakened Hezbollah, including the killing of its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and several top commanders. These strikes have also resulted in a significant loss of life among Lebanese civilians.

Hezbollah, with its well-trained militia and vast arsenal, poses a significant threat to Israel, and the potential for an Iranian missile attack adds another layer of danger to the already precarious situation.
