A loving couple, Jerry and Marcia Savage, were found hugging in their bed after a massive tree crashed through their bedroom during Hurricane Helene. The couple, aged 78 and 74 respectively, were killed instantly, Sky News reports.

The devastating storm, one of the deadliest in US history, brought winds of up to 140 mph to the region, causing widespread destruction and claiming the lives of over 150 people.

John Savage, the couple’s 22-year-old grandson, described the heartbreaking scene.

“They were both fine, the dog was fine,” he said of the couple, who were lying in bed.

However, shortly after, a “boom” shook the house as a large tree on their property crashed onto the couple’s bedroom.

Jerry, an electrician and carpenter, and Marcia, a retired bank teller who was active in her church, were teenage sweethearts and married for over 50 years. Their daughter, Tammy Estep, said their love was “immediate and everlasting.”
