Crook County Deputy Fatally Shoots Home Invasion Suspect in Sundance

A home invasion in Sundance, Wyoming, ended in a fatal police shooting, according to the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Cowboy State Daily reports.

Deputies shot and killed the suspect on Saturday morning after he reportedly raised a firearm toward one of them.

The incident began around 5 a.m., when deputies were called to respond to an armed home invasion involving domestic violence. Upon arrival, deputies were informed that a shot had been fired inside the home, though it was unclear whether anyone had been injured. The resident was unsure if the suspect was still inside.

While preparing to enter the residence, deputies encountered the suspect walking down a nearby road, about a block away from the home. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect pointed a gun at one of the deputies, prompting the deputy to fire, fatally wounding the individual on the scene.

The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating the incident, and the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

Crook County Sheriff Jeff Hodge confirmed in a statement that the suspect was a male who had previously lived at the residence but had returned without welcome. He also expressed his condolences to those affected by the tragic event. Neither the identity of the suspect nor further details from the DCI or the Crook County Coroner have been released.
