German authorities arrested a suspected terrorist on Saturday evening to prevent a potential attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin, Bloomberg reports.

The suspect, identified as Omar A., a Libyan citizen, is alleged to have been radicalized and espouses the ideology of the Islamic State terrorist organization. According to the federal prosecutor’s office, Omar A. discussed attack plans with an IS member via a messaging service.

This arrest comes amidst heightened security concerns in Germany following a series of violent attacks, including a fatal stabbing in Solingen two months ago that left three people dead and eight injured. Last month, the German government introduced temporary extensions of border controls across all land frontiers in response to the escalating security threats and concerns over irregular migration.

The recent rise of far-right and leftist parties in regional elections, fueled by frustration over the government’s migration and asylum policies, has further intensified calls for stricter immigration rules.
