Iranian authorities have allowed imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi to be hospitalized after nearly nine weeks of suffering from ill health, The Associated Press reports, citing the Free Narges Coalition.

The group, campaigning for Mohammadi’s release, expressed concern that simply transferring her to the hospital is insufficient, demanding a medical furlough to enable comprehensive treatment for her multiple conditions.

Mohammadi, a prominent human rights activist, is currently incarcerated at Iran’s notorious Evin Prison, known for holding political prisoners and those with ties to the West. She is serving a 30-month sentence, extended by an additional 15 months in January. On Saturday, she was handed another six-month sentence for protesting the execution of a fellow political prisoner in the women’s ward of the prison on August 6.

Mohammadi’s health has deteriorated significantly during her imprisonment. She suffers from heart disease, with a recent medical report in September revealing a serious complication affecting the main artery of her heart.

The coalition continues to call for Mohammadi’s unconditional release and her full access to medical care. The 52-year-old activist, the 19th woman and second Iranian to win the Nobel Peace Prize, has remained steadfast in her activism despite repeated arrests and years spent behind bars.
