The Wyoming Cowboys emerged victorious against the New Mexico Lobos, winning 49-45 in a thrilling matchup on Saturday, Bigfoot 99 reports.

The game was tightly contested, with both teams tied at 35 at halftime. In the fourth quarter, Wyoming secured the win by scoring 14 points.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Kaden Anderson led the Cowboys to a season-high offensive performance, amassing a total of 604 yards—342 through the air and 262 on the ground. A key defensive play clinched the victory for Wyoming, as defensive end Tyce Westland recovered a fumble after Lobos quarterback Damien Dampier was sacked with just under three minutes remaining in the game.

With this win, the Cowboys improved their record to 2-7 for the season and 2-3 in Mountain West Conference play. They will enter a bye week before facing Colorado State on November 15. In contrast, the Lobos fell to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the league.

The game also marked the return of senior running back Harrison Waylee, who had been sidelined since August due to injury. Waylee rushed for 170 yards, marking his fifth game with over 100 rushing yards.

The match began with a back-and-forth scoring battle. New Mexico initially took the lead, but Wyoming quickly answered with a touchdown run from Jamari Ferrel, who finished the game with 89 rushing yards. The teams continued to trade scores, with both sides finding the end zone multiple times throughout the first half.

As the game progressed, the Lobos briefly pulled ahead with a field goal and an 85-yard touchdown run by Dampier, leading 45-35 at one point. However, Wyoming fought back, with junior Rook Brown intercepting a pass for a pick-six, narrowing the score to 45-42.

The Cowboys then mounted a significant drive, culminating in a touchdown pass from Anderson to Justin Stevenson, sealing the final score at 49-45. After the game, the team celebrated the much-needed victory, and head coach Jay Sawvel expressed relief after a series of close losses leading up to this win. Wyoming now prepares for their upcoming game against Colorado State, looking to build momentum from this hard-fought victory.
