Shooting Mars Homecoming Week at Tuskegee University, Leaving One Dead

Tuskegee University’s 100th Homecoming Week celebrations were marred by a fatal shooting early Sunday morning, leaving one person dead and several others injured, including Tuskegee University students, The Associated Press reports.

The victim, who was not a student at the university, was pronounced dead at the scene. The university has notified the victim’s parents.

Several other individuals, including Tuskegee University students, were injured in the shooting and are receiving treatment at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.

The shooting occurred on campus as the university’s historic Homecoming Week celebrations were winding down. Tuskegee University is currently in the process of contacting parents and completing student accountability measures.

The Tuskegee University Police Department is unable to provide further information at this time. The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the shooting.
