India successfully tested a domestically developed long-range hypersonic missile on Saturday, marking a significant advancement in its military capabilities and placing it among a select group of nations possessing this advanced technology, CNN reports.
The test, conducted from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha state, involved a missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and its industry partners. The government announced the successful test on Sunday, highlighting that flight data confirmed accurate terminal maneuvers and impact.
The missile is designed to carry payloads over 930 miles, significantly enhancing India’s long-range strike capabilities. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the test as a “historic achievement,” emphasizing India’s entry into the exclusive club of nations possessing such advanced hypersonic technology.
