A car crash outside Yongan Primary School in Changde’s Dingcheng District has left multiple schoolchildren injured, Al Jazeera reports, citing state media reports.

The incident, which occurred Tuesday morning, involved a white SUV that crashed in front of the school.

Videos circulating on social media show children running screaming into the school building, with several people lying injured on the ground. While the exact number of casualties remains unclear, CCTV News reports that “many” children were injured, along with several adults.

The driver of the SUV was apprehended by parents and security guards at the scene, Xinhua News Agency reported. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the incident was accidental or deliberate.

This incident comes amidst a string of recent mass attacks in China, raising concerns about individuals targeting society to express personal grievances. Last week, a divorce-related dispute led to a car ramming incident in Zhuhai, resulting in 35 deaths and over 40 injuries. A separate stabbing attack at a vocational school in Wuxi on Saturday left eight dead and 17 injured, allegedly perpetrated by a disgruntled former student. A similar incident in Shanghai last September saw three fatalities and 15 injuries.
