The Wyoming State Museum will conclude its 2024 Family Day series with a special event dedicated to the wonders of space exploration,  Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports.

On December 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., families are invited to enjoy a free, interactive day filled with space-themed activities, educational experiences, and opportunities to engage with experts in the field.

Attendees will be able to participate in various hands-on activities, such as discovering hidden planets throughout the museum’s galleries, crafting their own asteroids, and participating in a Moon Walk relay race. They will also have the chance to launch straw rockets, thanks to the Wyoming NASA Space Grant Consortium.

Other exciting highlights include the opportunity to look through a sun telescope provided by the University of Wyoming (UW) Planetarium, and learn about gravity from the museum’s curator of education. Visitors will also have the rare chance to see a real NASA flight suit, recently donated to the museum’s permanent collection.

The event will also feature collaborations with local partners, including the Science Initiative Roadshow, Cheyenne Animal Shelter, and the UW College of Engineering, all offering additional educational and hands-on activities for families.

This Family Day event is part of the museum’s broader initiative to provide engaging and educational experiences for the community. Sponsored by Scheels of Johnstown, Colorado, the event is free to attend, although families are encouraged to register in advance to help the museum ensure there are enough supplies for everyone. Registration can be completed online at bit.ly/WSMfamilydays or by calling 307-630-2573.

Located at 2301 Central Avenue in Cheyenne, the Wyoming State Museum invites families to explore, learn, and experience the exciting world of space exploration in a fun and educational setting. For more information about this and other upcoming Family Day events, families can follow the museum on Facebook and Instagram at @wyomingstatemuseum.
