The Wyoming Student Media Association event provided students with valuable learning opportunities. In addition to submitting their previous year’s work for judging by advisors and professional journalists, students attended seminars conducted by seasoned professionals in the field.
New journalism students, including Thomas Walters, Cadence Burke, Samantha McCarty, and Tayler Zanolli, participated in the event and are preparing their work for submission in next year’s competition.
“The students in NCHS’s Journalism class consider themselves not just journalists but also memory-keepers dedicated to capturing their generation’s spirit and preserving it for years to come,” the press release stated.
At the start of the school year, students focus on foundational journalism principles, such as understanding the role of a free press and learning how to critically evaluate news. They then apply these skills to produce meaningful content for their school and community throughout the academic year.
In addition to reporting on daily news, students manage the production of the school’s annual yearbook, a responsibility that blends storytelling, creativity, and technical skills.
