A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 near Douglas, Wyoming, Sunday afternoon claimed the life of one passenger and injured two others, Oil City News reports.

According to a preliminary report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, a GMC pickup traveling southbound attempted to move from the right lane into the left to pass a slower vehicle. The driver lost control on the icy roadway, causing the truck to spin counterclockwise, leave the roadway, and roll over at least once before coming to rest on its wheels in the median.

The crash resulted in the death of passenger Kayla Zacharias, 31, a Wyoming resident. Two other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries, though their conditions have not been disclosed.

The report indicated that road conditions were wet, icy, and snowy, with snow and blowing snow contributing to reduced visibility and traction. Speed was identified as a contributing factor, and the report noted that a seatbelt was not in use at the time of the crash.

This report is based on preliminary findings provided by the Wyoming Highway Patrol via the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s Fatal Crash Summary map. Additional details may emerge as the investigation continues.

Authorities remind drivers to exercise caution during winter weather conditions, as icy roads and reduced visibility increase the risk of accidents.
