The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced Wednesday that Muddy Mountain Road, originally scheduled to close for the winter on December 2, will remain open due to favorable weather conditions, Oil City News reports.
The decision came after a reevaluation prompted by updated forecasts predicting minimal precipitation and temperatures in the 40s over the next week. The BLM had initially planned the closure to ensure public safety during the winter season, but the revised forecast led to a reconsideration.
“We understand the importance of access to public lands and are committed to making informed decisions that ensure public safety and resource protection,” said Larry Sandoval, field manager of the BLM Casper office.
He added that the extended access will allow people more time to engage in outdoor activities such as hunting or harvesting Christmas trees before the holidays.
The BLM emphasized that it will continue to monitor weather conditions and road safety. Should conditions change, the agency will provide updated information regarding the road’s status.
