A member of Poland’s central bank’s management board, Piotr Pogonowski, was detained by police on Monday to ensure his cooperation with a parliamentary investigation into the alleged use of Pegasus spyware during the previous Law and Justice government, Bloomberg reports.
Pogonowski, who served as head of Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) from 2015 to 2020, is not a member of the Monetary Policy Council responsible for setting interest rates. He had previously refused to testify before a parliamentary committee investigating allegations that the former administration used Pegasus spyware to target political opponents.
According to a police statement, Pogonowski’s detention is intended to compel his testimony before the committee. He is scheduled to give his testimony at 10 a.m. on Monday.
