Wyoming Air National Guard soldiers assigned to Detachment 6, Bravo Company, 2/245th Aviation Regiment, deployed to South America this week, receiving a formal sendoff at a ceremony held on December 1 at the Army Guard’s C-12 Hangar in Cheyenne, Oil City News reports.
The event recognized the soldiers’ service and dedication, with Governor Mark Gordon, military leaders, and families in attendance.
The troops are headed to the US Southern Command area of operations as part of a fixed-wing deployment. Unlike previous missions focused on surveillance and electronic warfare, this deployment will involve providing safe transportation for service members and supporting the State Department.
Detachment Commander Chief Warrant Officer 5 Steven Higgins addressed the audience, expressing enthusiasm for the mission.
“We will take care of each other and ensure we perform our mission as professionals, making our families, leadership, and all of Wyoming proud of us,” Higgins said.
Governor Gordon presented a Wyoming state flag to Higgins and gifted an “Entering Wyoming” highway sign, a symbolic gesture that dates back to the Korean War. The sign will be displayed at the command’s deployed headquarters to remind soldiers of their home state’s support.
Wyoming Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Greg Porter, Chief Master Sgt. Josh Moore, and other military leaders also attended, reinforcing the significance of the deployment. Governor Gordon, placing his hand over his heart during the National Anthem, praised the soldiers and their families for their commitment.
“This deployment highlights the adaptability and professionalism of the Wyoming Air National Guard,” said Higgins.
He emphasizedthe importance of their work in strengthening international partnerships.
The ceremony concluded with a solemn invocation by Chief Warrant Officer 4 Christopher Olson and a heartfelt farewell from attendees.
