Manchester City have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt, Al Jazeera reports.
The 25-year-old has joined the Premier League champions for an initial fee of some $72.6 million, the club announced on Thursday.
Marmoush has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, committing him to the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2029. The deal could potentially rise by a further $5 million through performance-related add-ons.
The Egyptian international’s arrival marks City’s third acquisition of the January transfer window, following the signings of defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.
Marmoush, who impressed during his time in the Bundesliga, began his career at Wadi Degla in his native Egypt. The Cairo-born player quickly progressed through their academy ranks, earning a first-team promotion at just 17 years old. He made the move to Wolfsburg’s reserves a year later.
After struggling to establish himself in the Wolfsburg first team, Marmoush experienced loan spells at St Pauli and Stuttgart before joining Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. He enjoyed a successful season at Frankfurt, netting 12 goals in 29 league games.
His rapid development has drawn comparisons to his compatriot, Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, although Salah himself has cautioned against such parallels.
Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, described Marmoush as an “accomplished and exciting forward” who they believe will strengthen their squad.
The signing comes at a time when City have endured a frustrating season by their recent standards. Despite having won the Premier League title for the past four seasons, they currently sit fifth in the table, 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool with one game in hand. City also face an uphill battle to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League following a midweek defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
