A tragic single-vehicle crash on US Highway 16 between Buffalo and Ten Sleep claimed the life of 45-year-old Wyoming resident Saul Martinez on Saturday, February 1, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), Oil City News reports.

Authorities report that Martinez was driving a Ford F-350 dually westbound downhill when the incident occurred. While navigating a left-hand curve near the South Fork Lodge entrance, the truck veered off the roadway to the right, broke through a guardrail, and began a counterclockwise rotation down a steep embankment.

The vehicle rolled approximately 2.5 times before coming to rest on its roof. Martinez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck during the rollover. There were no witnesses to the crash.

The scene was later discovered by US Forest Service employees.

The WHP has not released further information regarding contributing factors to the incident. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of seat belt use to reduce fatalities in rollover accidents.
