The second wrestling Coaches’ Ranking and first RPI ranking of the season were released Thursday, featuring several University of Wyoming wrestlers, 7220 Sports reports.
Four Cowboys were ranked in the Coaches’ Poll, while five wrestlers made appearances in the RPI rankings.
Joey Novak (197 pounds) led the charge for Wyoming. With a 17-3 record, including five ranked victories and an 11-match win streak, Novak earned a spot at No. 9 in the Coaches’ Ranking and No. 5 in the RPI.
Jared Hill (157 pounds) follows closely behind, holding a 16-8 record that includes five ranked wins. Hill is ranked No. 17 in the Coaches’ Poll and is notably positioned at No. 2 in the RPI.
Gabe Willochell (149 pounds) also garnered recognition, posting a 14-9 record with four ranked victories. He is ranked No. 26 in the Coaches’ Poll and No. 11 in the RPI.
Eddie Neitenbach (184 pounds), with an 8-5 record and two ranked wins, rounds out Wyoming’s representation in the Coaches’ Ranking at No. 31.
While Cooper Voorhees (165 pounds) did not appear in the Coaches’ Poll, he was ranked No. 23 in the RPI, maintaining a 13-12 record. Stockton O’Brien (133 pounds), completing Wyoming’s presence in the RPI, is ranked No. 32 with a 9-15 record and one ranked victory.
The Coaches’ Poll and RPI are critical components for NCAA Championship selection and seeding, with the next set of rankings scheduled for release on Feb. 27. Other factors such as head-to-head results, quality wins, and conference tournament placements also play a role in the selection process.
