Week 9 of Wyoming high school basketball saw most top-ranked teams maintain their positions, particularly in the girls’ division, where only one team suffered a loss, WyoPreps reports.
In contrast, boys’ basketball saw more upsets, with multiple ranked teams falling to both unranked opponents and out-of-state teams.
In Class 4A, the top five teams all secured victories. No. 1 Central and No. 2 East each won comfortably against Thunder Basin, while Campbell County, Sheridan, and Green River maintained perfect weeks with multiple wins.
Class 3A saw similar dominance, with Pinedale, Douglas, Cody, and Mountain View all winning their matchups. The only ranked girls’ team to struggle was No. 5 Torrington, which lost two games—one to an out-of-state opponent and another against No. 2 Douglas—before bouncing back with a win over Newcastle.
In Class 2A and 1A, all ranked teams secured victories, further solidifying their positions heading into Week 10.
The boys’ division saw more shake-ups. In 4A, No. 1 Campbell County maintained its dominance with wins over No. 2 Laramie and South. Laramie, however, had a tough week, dropping both its matchups, including a close game against No. 3 Sheridan.
Upsets were more frequent in 3A, where No. 1 Lovell took its first loss to No. 2 Cody but rebounded with a win over No. 4 Worland. Other ranked teams, such as Douglas and Powell, also had mixed results.
Class 2A and 1A featured additional surprises, as No. 4 Wyoming Indian and No. 3 Pine Bluffs both suffered road losses. Despite some setbacks, most teams remained competitive as the regular season nears its final stretch.
With Week 10 beginning on February 17 and new rankings set to be released on February 19, teams will be looking to strengthen their standings.
