Two people lost their lives on Saturday, February 15, when their side-by-side vehicle broke through the ice at Glendo Reservoir, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), Oil City News reports.

Following the incident, the ACSO Dive Team assisted the Platte County Sheriff’s Office in a recovery operation. The team arrived at the scene around 5 p.m. but was unable to conduct a dive due to hazardous ice conditions and poor weather.

By Sunday morning, conditions had improved, allowing the dive team to safely enter the water. Both individuals and their vehicle were successfully located and recovered.

The ACSO expressed appreciation for the multiple agencies involved in the effort, including the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming State Parks, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Glendo Fire/EMS, and the Natrona County Search and Rescue Dive Team.

Authorities are now urging the public to exercise extreme caution when on frozen bodies of water, as ice conditions can be highly unpredictable. They specifically warn against accessing the ice from the Glendo Reservoir marina, where a large channel was cut during the recovery, creating additional hazards.
