Colombian superstar Shakira was hospitalized with an abdominal condition, forcing the cancellation of her highly anticipated concert in Lima, The Associated Press reports.

The singer announced the news via her Instagram and X accounts, expressing her deep disappointment at being unable to perform for her Peruvian fans.

“I am very sad that I will not be able to take the stage today. I have been deeply emotional and excited about reuniting with my beloved Peruvian audience,” Shakira wrote. She explained that doctors had advised her she was not in condition to perform.

Shakira arrived in Peru on Friday evening and was scheduled to perform Sunday and Monday as part of her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” Latin American tour. The Peruvian concerts were the second stop on the tour, following two successful nights in Brazil last week. Her arrival had been met with enthusiastic crowds at the airport, a gesture she acknowledged on Instagram Saturday, saying “Thank you for such an emotional welcome, Lima!”

In her statement, Shakira assured fans that she is focused on recovery and plans to reschedule the Lima concert as soon as possible.

“My plan is to perform this show as soon as possible. My team and the promoter are already working on a new date,” she stated.

The “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour supports Shakira’s latest album of the same name, a project that channels her recent divorce into music. The album, which won Best Latin Pop Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards earlier this month, features the global hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.”

While the Lima concert is postponed, Shakira’s team is working to find a new date for the performance. The remainder of the “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour is currently scheduled to continue across Latin America before heading to Canada and the U.S. in May for a series of concerts through June.
