Wood to Oversee Operations at Wyoming Carbon Capture Facility

Global consulting and engineering firm Wood has been selected to provide operations and maintenance services for MTR Carbon Capture at the world’s largest membrane-based carbon capture facility in Gillette, Wyoming, World Oil reports.
The plant, located at the Wyoming Integrated Test Center (ITC) and managed by the University of Wyoming, is part of the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) large-scale pilot program aimed at advancing carbon capture technology.
The facility captures up to 150 tons of carbon dioxide per day from Basin Electric’s Dry Fork Station, a coal-fired power plant, with a 90% capture efficiency. The project is designed to improve the economic and environmental viability of point-source carbon capture.
Under an 18-month contract, Wood will provide full asset management services, including operations, preventative maintenance, data collection, and inventory management. These efforts will support the sequestration of captured CO2 while ensuring plant safety and efficiency.
Jess Stanley, President of Operations Americas at Wood, highlighted the company’s long-standing experience in carbon capture and its role in advancing industrial decarbonization.
“Wood has been at the forefront of the carbon capture and storage market for over 40 years. We are combining that track record with our operations expertise to support MTR Carbon Capture in scaling and accelerating industrial decarbonization in Wyoming,” Stanley said.
He also emphasized the project’s potential benefits, stating:
“By supporting this innovative carbon capture initiative, we are helping to secure a sustainable future by preserving natural resources and creating new economic opportunities. This project positions Wyoming at the forefront of environmental stewardship and technological advancement, and Wood is proud to be a part of it.”
In October 2024, Wood and its industry partners introduced guidelines for CO2 specifications in carbon capture projects. These guidelines, focused on operational efficiency, environmental impact, and safety, will be implemented at the Wyoming facility to enhance performance and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
