US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that his administration will introduce new tariffs on several industries, including lumber, automobiles, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals, within the next month or sooner.

“I’m going to be announcing tariffs on cars and semiconductors and chips and pharmaceuticals, drugs and pharmaceuticals and lumber, probably and some other things over the next month or sooner,” Trump stated during a conference in Miami.

However, he did not provide further details on the scope or specifics of the proposed measures.

Since returning to office on January 20, Trump has implemented several tariffs and frequently signaled his intent to impose additional levies on imported goods. His trade policy approach has included broad tariffs on foreign imports as well as targeted measures against specific industries, regions, and countries to advance his policy objectives.

Trump’s shifting stance on tariffs has created uncertainty among international trading partners and businesses, with many waiting for clarification on which industries or countries will be most affected. Some economists and industry experts have expressed concerns that sweeping tariffs could contribute to inflation by raising the cost of imported goods.
