EU to Hold Summit on Ukraine, European Defense Next Week

The European Union will hold an emergency summit on March 6 to discuss military aid for Ukraine and bolstering the bloc’s defense capabilities, Bloomberg reports, citing European Council President Antonio Costa.
The meeting will take place two weeks ahead of a previously scheduled quarterly summit.
EU member states are reportedly preparing a €20 billion ($21 billion) military support package for Ukraine, along with measures to increase defense spending, including a possible relaxation of fiscal regulations.
These efforts to provide assistance to Kyiv come amidst a calls from US President Donald Trump for a swift resolution to the conflict, as well as the shift in Washington’s policy towards Ukraine and military support for Kyiv war efforts.
EU foreign ministers are scheduled to discuss the military package on Monday, coinciding with a visit to Ukraine by Costa and representatives from the European Commission to mark the third anniversary of the start of the conflict.
