Two wildfires in Platte County led to evacuation notices over the weekend as high winds fueled the flames.

According to the Platte County Record-Times, the fires ignited on Sunday amid steady winds of 30 mph and gusts reaching 60 mph. Firefighters responded to the first call at 1:27 p.m., and by 2:24 p.m., evacuation notices were issued for residents of Chug Creek Estates and those near mile markers two through six on Highway 316. Authorities lifted the evacuation order at 6 p.m.

The YO Ranch Road Fire burned approximately 1,100 acres before being fully contained by Tuesday morning. The Sawmill Fire scorched 500 acres and was brought under control by 6 p.m. on Monday.

The fires destroyed three structures and a travel trailer, and one firefighter sustained injuries.

According to Global Forest Watch, peak wildfire season in the region typically begins in July, making these early-season fires notable.
