Laramie Wrestlers Advance in State Tournament

The Laramie High School boys wrestling team kept two athletes in title contention after the first day of the Wyoming Class 4A state tournament in Casper on Thursday, Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports.

Jamison Bade (285 pounds) and Cadence Redlon (215 pounds) each secured two victories to move forward in the championship bracket. Bade began his run with a pin against Sheridan’s Daniel Hoopes and continued his momentum by defeating Green River’s Jakob Lloyd in the quarterfinals. Redlon won his opening match with a 13-5 major decision over Evanston’s Taiton Mills before pinning Campbell County’s Colter Percifield to advance.

Caden Polson (138 pounds) also won his first match, pinning Green River’s Brayden McMullan, but fell in the quarterfinals to Star Valley’s Tel Parry by a 17-0 technical fall.

Several other Laramie boys wrestlers, including Antonio Grooman (113), Zaden Seibel (132), Luciano Daniele (144), Moss Plant (157), Riggin Austin (165), and Jim Coxbill (165), lost in the opening round and were eliminated from title contention.

On the girls’ side, Avianca Guzman (110 pounds) and Ava Zellmer (190 pounds) each won their first matches, with Guzman pinning Big Piney’s Cadance Cary and Zellmer defeating Sheridan’s Ardis Wallace by pin. Both later fell in the quarterfinals, with Guzman losing to Pinedale’s Kaylea Mortensen and Zellmer being pinned by Evanston’s Marty Dick.

Taylor Kimzey (100) and Kimberlie Ledford (120) dropped their opening matches and moved to the consolation bracket.
