Australia Mulls Peacekeeping Role in Ukraine Amid Growing US Skepticism

Australia is open to participating in peacekeeping operations in Ukraine, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced Tuesday amid escalating tensions between Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and the Trump administration, Bloomberg reports.
Albanese stated that Australia is “open to consideration of any proposals going forward” regarding potential troop deployments to Ukraine. His comments follow discussions in the UK and France about potentially deploying ground troops to Ukraine in case a ceasefire with Russia is made.
“There’s discussion at the moment about potential peacekeeping and from my government’s perspective we’re open to consideration of any proposals going forward,” Albanese told reporters.
Australia’s reaffirmation of support comes as President Donald Trump has ordered a halt to all US military aid to Ukraine following a recent dispute with Zelensky.
Since the war in Ukraine began three years ago, Australia has contributed over A$1.3 billion ($808 million) in military support.
