A Wyoming resident lost their life in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 220 between Casper and Alcova late Saturday night, according to a report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP).

The incident occurred near milepost 99 around 11:38 p.m. when the driver, 43-year-old Serena Romero, lost control of her Infiniti FX45 while traveling west. According to the WHP, Romero failed to navigate a left-hand curve, veered off the road to the right, and then overcorrected multiple times. This caused the vehicle to slide across the centerline before rolling at least three times down an embankment.

Romero was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The report lists speed and driver inattention as possible contributing factors.

This marks the 14th fatality on Wyoming highways in 2025. For comparison, the fatality count for the same period in previous years was:

  • 11 in 2024
  • 30 in 2023
  • 12 in 2022
  • 12 in 2021

The Wyoming Highway Patrol cautions that these details are based on preliminary findings from the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s Fatal Crash Summary map and may be subject to change.

With input from County 17.
