The Wyoming Cowboys ended their regular season on a tough note, suffering a 62-58 road loss to Fresno State on Tuesday night in the Save Mart Center.

Despite hitting 12 three-pointers in the game, Wyoming was unable to overcome cold shooting and struggled at the free-throw line, ultimately falling short in a close contest.

Wyoming’s shooting performance was disappointing, as the team shot just 32.8% from the field, with 12 of their 18 made baskets coming from beyond the arc. While Obi Agbim led the Cowboys in scoring with 17 points, all coming in the second half, the team struggled to capitalize on open shots against Fresno State’s zone defense. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, shot 35.3% from the field and outperformed Wyoming at the free-throw line, making 20 of 28 attempts compared to Wyoming’s 6 of 10.

The Cowboys were also dominated on the glass, with Fresno State outrebounding them 45-33. This was a significant factor in the outcome, as three Bulldogs players—Elijah Price, Alex Crawford, and Mor Seck—pulled down more rebounds than the entire Wyoming team.

The game was competitive early on, with the two teams exchanging leads. Wyoming briefly held a 17-16 advantage midway through the first half, but Fresno State ended the period with a 27-24 lead. In the second half, the Cowboys rallied from a 37-28 deficit to briefly take a 38-37 lead, thanks in large part to a 10-0 run. However, missed shots and Fresno State’s strong free-throw shooting allowed the Bulldogs to regain the lead and hold on for the victory.

Despite the loss, Wyoming had notable performances from several players. In addition to Agbim’s 17 points, Kobe Newton added 15 points and hit five three-pointers, while Dontaie Allen contributed 14 points. However, the Cowboys struggled to generate offense inside the paint, scoring only 14 points in that area.

Fresno State was led by Elijah Price, who scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Alex Crawford added 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs’ victory snapped an 11-game losing streak and helped them end the regular season on a high note.

With the regular season now concluded, the Cowboys will shift their focus to the Mountain West Basketball Championship in Las Vegas. Wyoming, seeded ninth, will face eighth-seeded San Jose State in the first round on Wednesday, March 12.
