The Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced that its hearing on a proposed rate increase for Rocky Mountain Power customers has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 11.
The meeting, originally set for Monday, March 10, will take place in the PSC Hearing Room at 2515 Warren Avenue, Suite 300, in Cheyenne.
Rocky Mountain Power customers in Wyoming saw a 5.5% base rate increase in January after the company initially sought a 29.2% rate hike. In August 2024, the company filed a new request with state regulators for an overall 14.7% rate increase. If approved, estimates suggest that the average residential customer could see their monthly bill increase by $17.17 to $31, according to AARP Wyoming.
Sam Shumway, AARP Wyoming’s state director, has encouraged residents to voice their concerns about the proposed increase. Last year, AARP Wyoming gathered more than 5,000 signatures in opposition to the previous rate hike and presented them to the PSC. A new petition is currently available for residents to sign ahead of the March 11 hearing.
The PSC meeting provides a final opportunity for Wyoming residents to express their views on the proposed rate increase. Members of the public can attend the hearing in person, via Zoom, or by telephone.
To participate by phone, attendees can dial 1-669-900-9128 or 1-253-215-8782 (Meeting ID: 993 344 9233). Those seeking further details can contact Ivan Williams of the PSC at 307-777-7427 or via email at [email protected].
Shumway emphasized the importance of public engagement, stating:
“This hearing is the last chance for those impacted by this year’s proposed 14% increase to talk directly to the PSC. We recommend they do that by signing our petition or commenting directly during the hearing.”
The PSC has not yet made a final decision on Rocky Mountain Power’s request.
