Cody Leads 3A Indoor Track State Championships After Opening Day

The 2025 Wyoming High School Indoor Track State Championships kicked off in Gillette on Thursday, with Cody High School taking an early lead in both the boys’ and girls’ team standings, WyoPreps reports.

Buffalo, Worland, and Powell also had strong performances, but the Broncs and Fillies built a double-digit advantage heading into the final day of competition.

The Cody Fillies ended Day One with 44 points, leading the girls’ team standings. Powell followed in second place with 33.5 points, while Torrington and Worland were tied for third at 26 points.

On the boys’ side, the Cody Broncs scored 59 points, putting them well ahead of Mountain View (29.5 points) and Worland (29 points).

One of the standout moments of the day came from Pinedale senior Madison Antonino, who won her third consecutive Class 3A title in the girls’ 3200 meters. Antonino also broke her own 3A record, finishing the race in 8:18.40, which was more than three seconds faster than her previous best.

Cody’s individual event winners included:

  • Isabelle Paddock – won the girls’ pole vault, clearing 11-0.50.
  • Kyler Stinson – dominated the boys’ 400 meters, winning by over three seconds with a time of 50.23.
  • Jarom Beardall – took first place in the boys’ long jump, landing a mark of 21-10.25.
  • The Cody girls’ Sprint Medley Relay (SMR) team finished first at 4:29.47.
  • The Cody boys’ Sprint Medley Relay (SMR) team also won, crossing the line at 3:46.49.

Buffalo secured three victories on Thursday, including:

  • Boys’ 4×800 relay – Set a new 3A record with a time of 8:18.55, breaking the previous record of 8:25.70 set by Star Valley last year.
  • Girls’ 4×800 relay – Won with a time of 10:18.08.
  • Kason Kukuchka – Took first place in the boys’ high jump, clearing 5-10 on fewer attempts than his competitors.

Worland also had two individual winners:

  • Cherise Douzenis – Won the girls’ 400 meters in 58.62, making her the only runner to break the one-minute mark.
  • Trajn Swalstad – Finished first in the boys’ 3200 meters at 9:56.22, the only competitor to run under 10 minutes.

Mountain View’s Derek Hagler claimed victory in the boys’ shot put, throwing 56-0.50 to win by nearly nine feet. His throw also set a new Class 3A record, surpassing the previous mark by over a foot.

The final day of competition will take place on Friday in Gillette, where more state champions will be crowned, and the team titles will be decided.
