University of Wyoming senior Allyson Fertig has been named the Mountain West Player of the Year following a standout season in which she dominated both offensively and defensively, Cap City News reports.
Fertig played a key role in leading the Cowgirls to the second-best record in league play, cementing her place as one of the conference’s top performers.
Fertig led the Mountain West in multiple statistical categories, averaging 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. She also posted a conference-best 59% field goal percentage and 2.1 blocks per game. Her achievements mark just the seventh time in Mountain West history that a player has led in both scoring and rebounding in the same season. Additionally, she became the first player ever to lead in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots in a single season.
Fertig is now the fourth Cowgirl to earn the conference’s top honor, joining former Wyoming standouts Aubrey Vandiver, Liv Roberts, and Amy Burnett.
One of Fertig’s most memorable performances came on Jan. 25 against rival Colorado State, where she scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Over the course of the season, she recorded 12 double-doubles, consistently making an impact on both ends of the floor.
Wyoming head coach Heather Ezell praised Fertig’s contributions, highlighting her deep connection to the program.
“Al is Wyoming,” Ezell said. “She was born a Cowgirl, and she lives and dies with the Brown and Gold. Just to be able to coach somebody like her that has pride and understands, it hits a little different.”
Fertig’s historic season not only cements her legacy at Wyoming but also reinforces her status as one of the most dominant players in Mountain West history.
