A 59-year-old man has been arrested by Humberside Police in connection with a collision between a cargo vessel and an oil tanker in the North Sea on Monday, as per Al Jazeera.

The man was detained “on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter” following the incident, which resulted in an explosion and fire aboard the two ships.

The collision involved the Portuguese cargo ship, Solong, and the US-flagged Stena Immaculate oil tanker. Police have not released the name of the arrested individual, who has not yet been charged.

Tragically, Junior Transport Minister Mike Kane informed Parliament that a crew member from the Solong is presumed dead as a result of the incident. Kane also expressed serious concerns about the stability of the Solong, stating it was “unlikely” the drifting cargo ship would stay afloat.

While the incident remains under investigation, the remaining 36 crew members from both vessels were safely rescued and brought ashore in Grimsby, some 150 miles north of London. Authorities reported that the rescued crew members sustained no major injuries.
