The United States has agreed to resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine after Kyiv expressed readiness to consider a 30-day ceasefire in its ongoing conflict with Russia, Al Jazeera reports.

The move comes after high-level talks between US and Ukrainian officials held in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

In a joint statement released following the meeting, both countries announced Ukraine’s openness to a US proposal “to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties.” Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the development on Telegram, stating the ceasefire proposal would “establish a complete ceasefire for 30 days, not only regarding missiles, drones and bombs, not only in the Black Sea, but also along the entire front line.”

US President Donald Trump signaled optimism for the proposal, indicating the US would hold meetings with Russia later Tuesday or Wednesday to garner their support.

The US announced it would “immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance” to Kyiv in light of the progress made in the discussions.

The suspension of aid followed a dispute last month between Presidents Trump and Zelensky. Zelensky had travelled to Washington to discuss a rare earth minerals deal, aimed at granting the US access to Ukraine’s significant reserves. The agreement, which soured the relationship, now appears to be back on track.

According to the joint statement, the two countries are set to “conclude as soon as possible a comprehensive agreement for developing Ukraine’s critical mineral resources to expand Ukraine’s economy and guarantee Ukraine’s long-term prosperity and security.”
