The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wyoming State Office has announced an oil and gas lease sale scheduled for June 3, 2025. The sale will offer 29 parcels of land, covering a total of 22,965 acres across Wyoming, BLM reports.

The BLM completed its initial scoping of these parcels in October 2024 and held a public comment period, which closed in January 2025. Now, the agency has opened a 30-day public protest period, running from March 12 to April 11, 2025, allowing for additional public input regarding the proposed lease sale and its related environmental analysis.

Leasing is the first step in developing federal oil and gas resources. Before drilling can begin, companies must submit an Application for Permit to Drill (APD) outlining their development plans. The BLM reviews these applications, conducts environmental analyses, coordinates with state agencies, and ensures public transparency by making the applications available for public review.

All parcels included in a federal lease sale have stipulations designed to protect natural resources and address environmental concerns. Additional information, including maps and instructions on submitting a protest, is available on the BLM ePlanning website at: BLM ePlanning.

The lease sale will be held online through EnergyNet, a platform used for federal oil and gas lease auctions. The BLM manages over 245 million acres of public land, primarily in 12 western states, including Wyoming. It also oversees 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate nationwide.
