The Douglas Bearcats continued their dominance in Wyoming high school basketball, claiming their seventh straight 3A girls state title with a thrilling 58-55 victory over Cody at the Ford Center in Casper on Saturday, K2 Radio reports.

The game came down to the final seconds, with All-Star Lauren Olsen sinking two clutch free throws with less than two seconds remaining to secure the win.

Douglas, which has established itself as a powerhouse in 3A basketball, likely would have been aiming for an eighth straight title if the 2020 state tournament had not been canceled due to COVID-19. This season, the team finished with an impressive 27-1 record and has lost just six games over the past four seasons.

Lauren Olsen, Wyoming’s all-time leading scorer in girls high school basketball, delivered another standout performance in her final state title game. She scored 30 points, shooting 10-for-19 from the field and 7-for-11 from the free-throw line. Jaden Meyer contributed 13 points, while Bailey Wright added nine for Douglas.

Despite the loss, Cody put up a strong fight, capping off an impressive season with a 22-5 record. The Fillies, who moved to the 3A division this year after winning the 4A state title in 2023, were led by Sydney Simone with 18 points. Grace Hays added 14 points, while Ellie Talich chipped in 13.

With four consecutive seasons of 20 or more wins, Cody has proven to be a formidable competitor in Wyoming girls basketball.
