Daniel Reynolds capped off an outstanding indoor track and field season by securing Wyoming’s first national title in 20 years at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Casper Star-Tribune reports.

The senior won the weight throw event with a record-breaking mark of 82 feet, 3.5 inches (25.08 meters), setting a new meet record and tying for the second-best throw in collegiate history. His winning effort surpassed the previous meet record set in 2015 by Wisconsin’s Michael Lihrman (80-10.25).

Reynolds entered the event as the national leader and delivered his best throw in the finals to secure the title.

“We are very proud of the way Daniel stepped up in a big pressure situation,” said UW throws coach Paul Barrett. “I can’t think of a better person to represent UW with class and humility.”

With this victory, Reynolds finishes the 2024-25 season undefeated in the weight throw and becomes the fourth Wyoming athlete to win an NCAA track and field championship. He joins Wesley Maiyo (1000 meters, 1974), Ryan Butler (weight throw, 1996), and Shauna Smith (400-meter hurdles, 2005) in the program’s history books.

Reynolds and the Wyoming track and field team will now shift focus to the outdoor season, beginning with the Jack Christiansen Invitational in Fort Collins, Colorado, on March 28-29.
