Rwanda has severed diplomatic relations with Belgium, ordering all Belgian diplomats to leave the country within 48 hours, as per Al Jazeera.
The Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced the decision in a statement on Monday, citing Belgium’s “consistent” undermining of Kigali during the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In response, Belgium has declared that Rwandan diplomats are no longer welcome in the country.
The move by Rwanda followed accusations by President Paul Kagame on Sunday that Belgium was advocating for international sanctions against Rwanda in connection with the conflict in eastern DRC.
