Trump Threatens Iran with “Dire Consequences” for Houthi Attacks

US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran, stating that it would be held responsible for any attacks carried out by the Houthi rebels in Yemen, as per Al Jazeera.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Monday, Trump asserted that the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea “all emanate from, and are created by, IRAN.” He added:
“Any further attack or retaliation by the ‘Houthis’ will be met with great force, and there is no guarantee that that force will stop there.”
The Houthis have launched numerous attacks against Israeli vessels and other commercial ships in the Red Sea, citing their opposition to Israel’s war in Gaza and its restrictions on humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory.
“Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!” Trump stated.
Trump has consistently urged Iran to denuclearize. He previously withdrew the US from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018, an agreement that offered Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curtailing its nuclear program.
Earlier this month, Trump reportedly sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warning of potential US “military” action if a nuclear deal is not reached.
Khamenei has publicly rejected Trump’s attempts to negotiate, dismissing them as “bullying” and citing Trump’s previous withdrawal from the JCPOA.
Iran has maintained that its nuclear program is for civilian purposes and denies any intentions of developing nuclear weapons.
