President Donald Trump ignited a social media firestorm Sunday by mocking his predecessor, Joe Biden, over allegations of widespread use of an “autopen” to sign official documents during his presidency, Fox News reports.

Trump, in a Truth Social post, juxtaposed his own official presidential portrait with a picture of Biden’s alleged autopen device, followed by his own presumptive official portrait for a second term. He further fueled the controversy with another post:

“The person who was the real President during the Biden years was the person who controlled the Autopen!”

He previously addressed the autopen issue during a Friday speech from the Oval Office concerning NATO spending.

The post quickly went viral, resonating with many who have long questioned Biden’s health and mental acuity. Critics, particularly on the right, have accused Democrats of downplaying concerns about Biden’s well-being and potentially covering up issues during the latter part of his term.

Vice President JD Vance amplified the message by sharing the image on X without comment, adding to the growing buzz. Elon Musk further weighed in with a pointed reaction, posting a bullseye and laughing face emoji on X in response to the image.

The controversy stems from a recent report by the Oversight Project, an arm of the Heritage Foundation, which alleges that a significant portion of official documents signed by Biden appear to bear the same autopen signature. The report raises concerns about whether Biden “actually ordered the signature of relevant legal documents” and, more broadly, about his capacity to fulfill his presidential duties.

The Oversight Project highlighted several examples, including two executive orders issued in 2022 and 2024, and Biden’s announcement of his decision not to seek re-election in 2024. All three documents allegedly feature an identical signature consisting of a line followed by “R. Biden Jr.”

The Oversight Project concluded its report by urging investigators to determine “who controlled the autopen” during the Biden administration, implying that someone other than the president may have been authorizing the signatures.
